The VR version of Squid Game will soon be available if you enjoy it but aren't courageous enough to play it in person. You'll be able to explore this horrifying future at any Sandbox VR arcade worldwide starting in "late 2023" thanks to a collaboration between Netflix and Sandbox VR on a game based on the Korean TV series.
At the time of writing, the game creator has over 30 locations worldwide, 26 of which are in North America, which represents a much-needed recovery after going dormant through the worst of the pandemic.
You'll "compete against each other to be the last one standing," according to Sandbox VR, in its upcoming experience. Players will be "transported to iconic Squid Game locations, where they become contestants in a variety of pulse-pounding challenges inspired by the Netflix series." Presumably without anyone actually dying. Players will be able to instantly view, share, and even download a customized mixed-reality highlight reel, like with all Sandbox VR games.
The San Francisco-based VR studio kept its Netflix partnership a secret, but based on my previous experience with its most recent zombie-shooter, Deadwood Valley (seen below), I expect the future Squid Game release won't let me down.
Up to six players can move around freely in each room of any Sandbox VR game while donning ankle and wrist trackers for full-body motion capture and a bHaptic TactSuit to feel bullets or zombie scratches. These VR games are made even more intense by the fact that players also control a physical weapon that is the same size as its digital equivalent.
