Now that you have an iPhone, controlling your Tesla is simpler. The most recent Tesla iOS software now supports Shortcuts actions, making some common tasks accessible through Siri in addition to on-screen taps and widgets, as noted by Not a Tesla App

Apple's voice assistant can be used for straightforward tasks like opening windows or trunks through to special modes. It's now possible to speak to your phone to turn on Bioweapon Defense Mode if you've ever wanted to.

Additionally, shortcuts make automations possible, allowing you to group together various tasks or schedule the completion of those tasks. You can set up a panic mode that, for example, automatically warms the cabin before your morning commute or that simultaneously flashes the lights, honks the horn, and closes the windows.

You don't really need a shortcut for an emissions test, and the commands that are available aren't all that comprehensive and include features you won't likely use. However, this might still be a lot more convenient than navigating the Tesla app. Furthermore, Android users will have to put in more effort to go hands-free because, as of this writing, there is no official integration with Alexa or Google Assistant.

This app update does not add voice control to Tesla vehicles. If you want to communicate with your car directly, you'll need to look at models from manufacturers like Mercedes or Volvo. It does, however, introduce voice into the mix, which might be welcome if you'd prefer not to slog through the official app to perform basic tasks.

  1. This is a very good innovation from Tesla, but one will really need to keep his phone safe not to compromise the safety of your car.
